Syndromic Surveillance Ontology

Chief Complaint Classifier

Onto-classifier is a freely accessible web application that classifies free text chief complaints into syndromes of interest using the SSO (or more specifically, the regular expressions encoded in the SSO). The classifier is currently hosted at the University of Pittsburg and can be accessed here.

The screen-shot below shows classification results for the chief complaint input string "vimiting" (an attested misspelling of "vomiting"), where it can be seen that the concept was identified using the regular expression \bvimit.*?\b. Further, the chief complaint is identified as belonging to two SSO syndromes: specific gastrointestinal, and sensitive gastrointestinal.
